Use a lookout before danger
The lookout role exists before a hazard is on top of the boat. Their job is to call direction, not gather supplies or stare at the island behind you.
- Call open water hazards early.
- Keep the route voice simple.
- Turn before panic starts.
Do not fight every pull
When a whirlpool becomes the main threat, survival comes from early steering and crew focus. The late fix is usually worse than the early turn.
- Avoid tight hazard routes.
- Stop extra island detours.
- Keep crew on the boat during danger.
Recover with supplies first
After a bad crossing, do not immediately chase the next reward. Refill food and wood, reset roles, and only then continue the route.
- Land safely.
- Name the shortage.
- Refill before the next crossing.
